NatCon ’24 Student Testimonies

Thank you to the sponsors that helped get us students to NatCon! It was amazing experience to connect with other students and practitioners from around the country and have deep conversations about the difficulties of training in this field. Connecting with other students both in my region and nationally helps me feel supported in this community of Christian medical practitioners when I do not interact with many day to day. Throughout training we also encounter many different ethical situations and have few opportunities to have open and honest conversations about how to handle them, let alone feeling allowed to bring in the faith perspective. This weekend has equipped me with factual arguments to back up my moral convictions, and the confidence that I am not alone in that battle. I am forever thankful for CMDA, and the sponsors that help us students utilize these events. Thank you!

This was my second time attending the National Convention and it was, yet again, an incredibly valuable experience. Meeting other Christian students and physicians was inspiring and reminded me of why I am pursuing a career in medicine in the first place. I especially loved learning about the different career paths the doctors I met took, oftentimes unexpectedly, all while allowing Jesus to lead the way. Additionally, the talks were insightful and educational and covered topics relevant to my stage in training.

Thank you for your donation to make this experience possible. Because of your generosity, my passion for pursuing medicine with Christ in the center is reaffirmed and I feel refreshed to continue the medical training journey. I am looking forward to keeping in touch with some of the relationships started at the National Convention and I feel equipped to continue serving well as I am about to start residency.

I wanted to express my gratitude for your generous funding, which helped cover my travel and stay expenses. I thoroughly enjoyed the conference. Meeting other students and physicians in the medical profession who share my faith was invigorating. This experience has strengthened my resolve. Your donations are extremely valuable, enabling trainees/students like me to attend such conferences and grow both personally and in our faith.

Thank you so much for your generous financial support, which enabled my attendance at the CMDA National Conference. The experience was profoundly enriching, and I am immensely grateful. The plenary sessions featuring esteemed speakers such as Dr. Tony Evans, Dr. Farr Curlin, and Dr. Lydia Dugdale were particularly impactful. I found their talks deeply inspiring and thought-provoking, challenging me to more actively live out my faith. The awards presented at the conference were incredibly motivating, further fueling my commitment to my personal and professional growth. The breakout sessions were exceptional as well, allowing me to delve deeper into my interest in bioethics and gain significant insights into culturally relevant ethical issues. One of the most valuable aspects of the conference was the opportunity to connect with organizations involved in medical missions abroad, a long-standing interest of mine.

Additionally, I was able to form meaningful relationships with other Christian students from diverse backgrounds across the country. These connections have already led to plans for future visits and ongoing friendships that I cherish deeply. Attending the conference has also inspired me to seriously consider pursuing an MDiv at Duke Divinity School in the coming years. This newfound direction, along with the challenges and inspirations I encountered, would not have been possible without your support. Once again, thank you for your generous financial contribution. It has had a significant impact on my life and the trajectory of my medical journey, and I am truly grateful.

I was also very encouraged to learn about opportunities in medical missions. I hope to eventually be involved in medical mission work. I would love to use my unique MD-JD training to eventually help lead a missions-oriented healthcare organization and be involved in medical missions around the world. I was inspired to meet so many people who shared this passion.
I also thoroughly enjoyed the many lectures and sessions that I attended. These sessions were informative and helped me to see  areas where my MD-JD could make an impact.”

“Thank you so much for your support that made my trip to the CMDA National Convention possible! I had an amazing time at the event. I am at a very secular medical school. I have been blessed to have a few Christian friends at the medical school, but our community of Bible-believing Christians is small. I also previously graduated from law school. Unfortunately, there was no Christian community at my law school. I was so blessed to attend the CMDA National Convention where I met wonderful Christian friends and mentors who share my passion for medicine, the Gospel, and serving as the hands and feet of Jesus in a broken world. I was so inspired by the incredible people that I met. I thoroughly enjoyed talking about God and medicine with medical and dental students, residents, and fellows. I enjoyed hiking in the Blue Ridge Mountains, singing worship songs at a bonfire, and discussing bioethics and the Bible with so many amazing students. I truly believe that I made long-term friendships from the weekend. One graduating MS4 even booked a flight to hang out with me in LA for a few days this summer before he starts residency. I was also so encouraged to connect with mentors who are already practicing medicine.
